GIS to the Rescue: Advances of GIS Technology in Emergency Services
Time: 9:00am - 10:30am
MetCom (Metropolitan Area Communications Center) is a 911 center that dispatches for multiple fire departments in the South Metro Denver area. Come see how the center utilizes GIS and GPS technology to its fullest by using real-time GPS locations on all fire and medical apparatus and dynamic GIS-based routing to automatically dispatch the closest emergency units to an incident. We will demonstrate how GIS is integral to the ever-evolving 911 system, give a tour of our state-of-the-art center, and show our IDT (Incident Dispatch Team) vehicle.
Location will be MetCom 911 Dispatch Center 9195 E Mineral Ave, Centennial, CO 80112 (just south of DTC)
The tour will be limited to 15 attendees.
National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)
Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm
The tour will showcase a short 7-minute film about NCAR, which will be followed by a 45 minute tour of the facility including the Climate Discovery Exhibit, Architecture of our Mesa Lab, Supercomputers, History, Mission, and scope of their work. There will also be a visualization lab demonstration which will show how climate modeling information can be viewed and interpreted.
The tour will be limited to 20 attendees.
U.S. Geological Survey(USGS)
Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm
The USGS tour will include a presentation on the history of creating topo maps and some current programs and technology using LIDAR, current work on the National Hydrography Dataset, a tour of the Rock and Ice core libraries and a tour of the warehouse map room.

A tour of the Alliance Center at Sustainable Colorado. This 6-story historic office building houses 30 nonprofits all working on an environmental, social or economic aspect of sustainability. In addition to groups like Sierra Club, Center for Native Ecosystems, and Colorado Environmental Coalition, we have social advocacy groups like the Latina Initiative, Consumer Health Initiative, and the American Council for the Blind Colorado. The building has been renovated "green' and has received two LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifications from the US Green Building Council. It provides a living model of green building practices and is a tour site for over 1,000 people a year.

- Reports from participating colleges on GIS programs and activities
- GIS articulation progress, K-12 through University
